Itinerary:

We’ll kick things off today with a complimentary transfer from Killarney Train Station – or you can simply meet us at our Dingle Lodge, your home for the next few days. Formed by volcanoes and carved by glaciers, Dingle town sits on the shores of Dingle harbour, which feeds out into the Atlantic Ocean. Begin with a welcome meeting, where you’ll meet your host and get an overview of the upcoming itinerary. Afterwards, head to a nearby bike shop to get fitted up for your first active adventure – cycling around Slea Head (approximately 30 kilometres). Heading west from Dingle you cycle via Ventry to Slea Head taking in striking panoramas of the peninsula and look out at the Blasket Islands and nearby Dunmore Head, where clans gathered to mediate local conflicts. (Alternatively, you can cycle to Dunquinn harbour and take the ferry to the Great Blasket Island and enjoy a walk around this mystical and enchanting place). The road is mostly quiet and you won’t find yourself puffing up long steep hills, but there’s a satisfying downhill stretch on one side.  For a fresh snack along the way, on the north side, you’ll find wee Pubs stocked with produce straight from the local waters. If there’s time, drop into Dingle Crystal & Workshop a family business specialising in hand-cut Irish crystal and see master craftsman Sean Daly at his workshop in Dingle, Co. Kerry. Sean’s unique Celtic designs are inspired by the rich heritage and breathtaking landscape of Ireland’s west coast. This evening, make the most of the warm atmosphere of a homely place to kick off your boots after an active day.

This is a fantastic route and really has a touch of everything you could possibly want whilst on your adventure. Starting in Dingle and heading along magnificent back roads sided with tremendous farmland and wildlife, as you enter Ventry and head along Mam An Oraigh breathtaking scenery of Ventry harbour appears. The journey continues through beautiful little townlands such as Rahinanne, Ballincota, Ballintslea eventually joining with the R559 through to Ard A’Bhothar where the world-famous Paidi O Se’s is a must-visit while on this tour. The route continues back along the R559 through Ventry village along the wild Atlantic way back towards Dingle. The endpoint is not far to a whisky distillery that’s one of the smallest licensed distilleries in Ireland. Get inside insight into what makes this region the home of some of the best whisky & Gin in the world with a tour and tasting led by a local expert. See if you can taste the from the localised well water to the immensely manual mashing, alongside the wooden fermentation vessels that feed into the three bespoke copper pot stills, the production is purely Dingle.  Enjoy a free evening to enjoy Gaelic hospitality and be sure to try some great local produce for dinner.
Make sure you fill up with breakfast in the morning as today has a heady bike trip in store. Pull-on your cycling gear and get a shuttle to the start of the bike trail that might not reach the physical heights of its neighbours, but definitely offers apex views. The Conor Pass is the highest mountain pass in Ireland and provides the most dramatic and scenic way of entering or leaving Dingle. This narrow, twisting road runs between the town of Dingle and Kilmore Cross on the north side of the peninsula, where roads fork to Cloghane/Brandon or Castlegregory. The views from the road are breathtaking, as the glaciated landscape of mountains and corrie lakes comes into view. From the scenic carpark at the summit, there are views as far as the Aran Islands off County Galway. The views from the road are breathtaking, as the glaciated landscape of mountains and corrie lakes comes into view. This is truly spectacular scenery that demands to be savoured. Light plays across the rippled valley flanks and silvery water as the wild Atlantic Ocean stretches out below, towards the famous Cliffs of Moher on the north and the Iveragh Peninsula and Skellig Islands in the south. Celebrate conquering the Pass today with a special included dinner tonight.
Your Irish Mini Adventure of the Dingle Peninsula comes to an end this morning after breakfast. Got a bit more time to spare? Maybe take on some of the other local adventures you didn’t do on the Escape before your complimentary transfer back to Killarney Bus/Train station
