Leave the capital and enjoy the scenic journey to Ireland’s most beautiful region of Westport, in the West of Ireland.

This morning as we drive 3 .5 hours across Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands,  your driver will keep you entertained by easing travelers into a gentle exploration of some of the country’s untouched terrain. Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands encompass a region full of rich history, diverse culture, and stunning natural beauty.

  • Travel back in time, on a tour of Clonmacnoise, one of Ireland’s largest monastic settlements – an ancient place where time stands still. Founded by Saint Ciaran in the mid-sixth century it became a great centre of religion and learning, visited by scholars from all over the world.

After arriving in Westport, spend the rest of the day wandering the town’s colourful streets, visiting friendly pubs, cafes and craft shops.

Or opt to do the following;

  • Visit Westport House and head for a ramble around the grounds and gardens. Its riverside location sits amid manicured gardens and offers incredible views overlooking Clew Bay and up towards Croagh Patrick – Ireland’s Holy Mountain.
  • Opt to take a 90 mins cruise, and explore the World Famous Clew Bay; its 365 islands, seal colony, and Inishgort Lighthouse, the holy mountain of Croagh Patrick & John Lennon’s Island.
  • Rent a bike and discover the amazing Great Western Greenway from Achill Island to Westport – 45km – (can also be made much shorter)
  • Discover the Old Railway Line Loop Walk – a 5km loop walk starting at the center of town, out towards Westport quay via the old railway line, and back to the town via Westport Huse & Gardens.
  • There’s an endless number of pubs in Westport. From tourist favorites, like Matt Molloy’s, to often-missed spots, like Toby’s, there’s a pub to tickle every fancy.

The next morning, after a full Irish breakfast, you will be brought on a wonderful tour of one of Ireland’s most scenic regions – Connemara.

After a hearty breakfast, it’s time to meet your guide and head out for a tour of the Westport/Connemara Region

  • Enjoy a guided walking tour of Westport town – Wander the storied lanes of our Georgian town, where lively guides in yellow bring history to life with mirth and cheer. From saints to pirates, discover all that makes Westport the jewel of Ireland.
  • Tip your hat and acknowledge Ireland’s most famous Saint, St Patrick at the foot of Croagh Patrick (Irelands Holy Mountian).
  • From there you will drive through the breathtaking Doolough Valley and learn of its tragic and haunting past.
  • From there it’s through the scenic Delphi Valley to the shores of Killary Harbour, Ireland’s only fjord, and the village of Leenane.
  • The village was the setting for the film “The Field” with Richard Harris.
    For lunch, you can opt to eat fresh Connemara mussels straight from the Fjord.
    Continue our journey to Clifden via Sky Road arguably the most beautiful corner of the Connemara region, with some of the most rugged and varied scenery in the county.
  • Listen to toe-tapping Irish music in local iconic bars with Irish music playing seven nights a week in season.

We spend another day and night in the wilderness of Connemara, so you don’t need to repack your suitcase. Just relax and enjoy.

After breakfast is yours to design. Meet your guide and head out for a tour of the Connemara Region

  • Visit Kylemore Abbey, one of Ireland’s most beautiful buildings, and wander Kylemore’s wonderful landscaped gardens. (3-hour visit)
  • Discover the picture-postcard beauty of the Inagh Valley.
  • Arrive back in Clifden by the late afternoon to soak up this quaint town’s colorful atmosphere in the heart of Connemara.
  • Opt to walk to visit Clifden Castle. The romantic Gothic castle is now a historical ruin and is a great place to visit in Clifden, about 2km from the town.
  • Or you can relax and unwind in a hot bath of Atlantic Seawater infused with hand-harvested seaweed located in the center of town.
  • Accommodation tonight is once again in Clifden

Travel along the Wild Atlantic Way with your driver/guide via Galway Bay & The Burren Region

  • From Clifden, we continue our journey through the lush rolling hills as we traverse the famous Lakelands of the Connemara Region towards Galway City.
  • For several hours you can soak up the famous colorful atmosphere around the tribal city of Galway – the busker music, the cobblestone lanes, the contemporary flair that blends well with its medieval past, and of course, the oysters.
  • After lunch, it’s time to explore the lunar landscape of the Burren and travel along the Wild Atlantic Way.
  • Your first visit is at the 16th Century Dunguaire Castle on the outskirts of Kinvara. One of the most photographed castles in the whole of Ireland.
  • Then it’s on through the glacial-karst landscape of the Burren and past Corcomroe Abbey.
  • You will follow the Coast Road with views of Galway Bay and the Aran Islands, making a short stop to walk on the lunar-like landscape of the Burren
  • Arrive in Doolin village in the late afternoon with plenty of time to visit the local craft shops, colorful cafes, and lively pubs.

Overnight in Lahinch 

*At an extra expense, it’s also possible to spend a whole day on the Gaelic-speaking island of Inis Mor. You’ll be dropped off at Rossaveal in County Galway to catch a 40 min boat trip to the island (€40 return). On the island, you can choose to explore the island by bus with a local guide or by bike. (€20 to €25). You will return on a 60 min boat trip to Doolin in County Clare, where you’ll be met at the pier by your driver/guide.

From the mighty cliffs to the magical kingdom as we move from Clare to Kerry.

  • Don’t look down, It’s the 700ft high Cliffs of Moher.
  • Watch out for dolphins as we take a ferry across the mighty mouth of the Shannon – the longest river in Ireland or Britain!
  • Enjoy a spectacular sheepdog demonstration on a locally run farm.
  • Follow winding roads through the valleys
  • Roll into bustling Dingle just in time for a creamy pint of Guinness.

The average driving time today is 3 hours 30 minutes.

This morning you will meet up with your professional driver/guide, where jaw-dropping scenery and knife-edge drops are guaranteed on a leisurely drive around Slea Head.

After lunch is yours to design. Relax with downtime in Dingle. Or partake of the following options:

  •  By boat discover the historic Dingle Bay (Tour Option – €15-20 per person).
  • Take a guided craft tour of a working Irish crystal studio
  • Sample craft Irish whiskey and gin at Dingle Distillery (Tour Option – €15 per person).
  • Stroll Dingle’s streets for a quirky mix of craft studios, lively pubs, fantastic food, and traditional Irish music.

Today we’re touring the scenic Ring of Kerry route, circuiting the Iveragh peninsula from Killorglin to Killarney. Situated in the South Westerly corner of Ireland, The Iveragh Peninsula is home to The Ring of Kerry – Ireland’s most spectacular mountain road.

  • Your day tour starts from Dingle and covers 180km of rolling rugged countryside and truly stunning panoramic coastline views.

My wife and I enjoyed the exceptional 13 day travel experience (Sept. 4 to Sept. 16, 2025) of Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. Everything was organized and planned for us: the driving, night stays were flawless, destinations were all terrific and we couldn’t wait to visit the next stop!

We can not say enough about our small group tour guide/driver, historian, comedian - ‘Anthony’. He welcomed everyone equally and we considered him part of our group, all the while being very professional and accommodating to us all.

We couldn’t imagine renting a car and travelling to the locations we did on our tour. We wouldn’t have known the significance, history, folklore or geography of the locations we visited. Plus, driving on the other side of the road would keep all of our attention rather than having someone else drive while we observe through the windows!

👉 Top tip: We always recommend arriving the night before your tour begins to avoid any early-morning airport drama.

We also have some tours with the option of leaving from Belfast. 

Most tours return between 4:30PM and 5:00PM, with drop-offs at either:

  • The Ashling Hotel, Parkgate St., Dublin
  • Point A Hotel, Moore Lane, Dublin 1

 

If you’re catching a flight home that evening, make sure your departure is after 10PM to give yourself enough time.

Airport transfers aren’t included in our tours – but we’ve got you covered with helpful options.

We’ve put together a handy guide with all your airport transfer options, including public transport, shuttle buses and taxis.

Need a stress-free transfer?
 We recommend a Meet & Greet taxi service with Irish Taxi Tours. For around €80 total (for up to 8 passengers), they’ll collect you from arrivals and take you straight to your city centre hotel.

How it works:

  1. Contact them via email/form (mention you’re booked on an Irish Experience Tour)
  2. They’ll send a payment link
  3. Once paid, you provide your flight details
  4. You’ll be greeted at Dublin Airport by name and whisked into town

We recommend flying directly into Dublin Airport (DUB) – it’s the main hub and the most convenient option for our tours.

Direct Flights to Dublin from the USA:

  • New York (JFK/EWR) – Aer Lingus, Delta, United
  • Chicago (ORD) – Aer Lingus, United, American
  • Boston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc. – Multiple options

 

From Canada:

Shannon is another international option, especially handy for guests booking private tours focused on Ireland’s west coast.

For our scheduled small-group tours, however, Dublin is your starting point.

Pro tip: that Meet & Greet taxi we mentioned earlier? It’s well worth it after a long flight.

Whether you’re flying solo, with your partner, or in a group of friends, you’ll feel right at home. By the end of Day 1, you’ll likely have made a busload of new friends and be planning your post-tour reunions.

You will meet like-minded people who have an appreciation for the great outdoors. Our guests are usually people from Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States, and come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

On average, we have a 50/50 split between men and women, with several single travelers on each trip as well as couples and friends traveling together.

We welcome guests from their 30s all the way into their 70s (and sometimes beyond).

As long as you’re young at heart and keen to explore Ireland off the beaten path, you’ll fit right in.

If you love stretching your legs, soaking up jaw-dropping landscapes, and swapping stories in a cozy pub at the end of the day – this is your tribe.

Yes – we do our very best to make sure everyone is well fed and happy, regardless of dietary preferences or restrictions.

Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, or have food allergies, please let us know in advance when booking your tour. We’ll flag it with your guide and accommodation providers.

While Ireland is still catching up with some food trends, most places are now very aware and accommodating of different dietary needs – especially in the towns and villages we visit. We’ll always try to ensure there are good options for you at breakfast, and your guide will offer tips for restaurants with suitable menus along the way.

Pro Tip: When dining out, just give your server a quick heads-up about your dietary needs – they’re used to it and usually happy to help.

Some groups love eating together every night, others prefer mixing it up. Your guide will chat with the group and help arrange group dinners when there’s interest, or recommend places for a quieter or more romantic meal if you fancy doing your own thing.

 You’ll need a UK/Ireland adapter for your chargers and devices.

Power tip: bring a multi-USB adapter or power strip if you’ve got multiple devices. Outlets can be limited in some older B&Bs.

Unless you’re a regular hiker or doing longer trails, you won’t need bulky boots. Trail shoes or good runners/trainers will do the job. Save space in your suitcase and your back.

Visas, Entry & Travel Requirements

If you’re from the USA, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand – you’re in luck! You don’t need a visa for short visits to the Republic of Ireland (up to 90 days), provided you’re here for tourism and meet standard entry conditions.

You’ll just need:

  • A valid passport (with at least 6 months remaining)
  • Proof of onward travel (return ticket or next destination)
  • To not overstay the 3-month limit

This bit’s important:

From November 27 2024, if your trip includes Northern Ireland (which is part of the United Kingdom), travellers from USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand will need an ETA – Electronic Travel Authorisation.

Think of it like a digital visitor pass – quick and easy to apply for.

✍️ ETA Overview:

  • Cost: £10 (GBP)
  • Applies from: November 27 2024
  • Where to get it: Online or via the UK ETA app (iOS & Android)
  • What you need: Passport, email address, credit/debit card or digital wallet.

🚨 You must apply before travel if you’re entering Northern Ireland – but you can travel to the UK while waiting for a decision.

If your Irish Experience Tour doesn’t enter Northern Ireland, you won’t need an ETA.

Our cancellation policy is:

Following your payment of part or all of the Fees, if you cancel your Tour:
(a) more than 30 days prior to the start date of the Tour, Deposit is non-refundable (can be deferred to another tour).
A full refund (excl. deposit); and
(b) within 30 days from the start date of the Tour, Deposit is non-refundable (cannot be deferred to another tour). No refund.
If you cancel on the start date of the Tour or any time thereafter (including by leaving the Tour) or you do not show up for the Tour, you will be liable to pay the Fee in full and no refund will be made to you. We will notify you as soon as possible if we need to suspend or reschedule a Tour.

  • The balance is due 30 days before your departure date.
  • Bookings made within 30 days of departure require full payment at the time of booking.

All our tours start in central Dublin and end in central Dublin (unless your itinerary includes a train transfer – more on that below).

Tour end point:
 All tours return to The Ashling Hotel (Stoneybatter, Dublin 8) and Point A Hotel, usually between 4:30 – 5:00 PM. If you’re staying along this route between both hotels, we’re happy to drop you off en route (must be pre-arranged with your driver).

Some tours end with a train journey back to Dublin.

We use modern, comfortable Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibuses and Iveco Turas 700 vehicles – chosen for their safety, reliability, and style.

Our vehicles are not wheelchair accessible.

You must be able to board the vehicle unaided, or have someone accompany you for assistance. Lightweight foldable wheelchairs may be stored in the luggage hold (with advance notice).

We recommend not booking flights earlier than 10:00PM on your final tour day to allow for smooth drop-offs, traffic or delays.

Staying an extra night in Dublin is a great way to end your trip – treat yourself to a farewell pint, catch some live music or relax before your journey home.
