Itinerary:

Welcome to Ireland’s Connemara, a stunning coastal landscape of rugged cliffs, labyrinthine inlets, billowing grasslands and craggy mountains. Coupled with enchanting history and vibrant culture, Connemara’s environs make for an awesome week of biking. After our welcome meeting with your trip leader, check into your accommodation in Clifden, your base for the next three nights. Following lunch, your Trip Leaders fit your bike and give a brief talk on biking techniques and safety, then you head off on a ride through sparsely populated land peppered with small loughs (lakes). In this remote region, Bike through sparsely populated Connemara, a land peppered with small loughs (lakes) and villages. Traditions thrive here, where the lilt of Gaelic is ubiquitous. Explore a winding route along Ireland’s windswept western coast. Cycle meandering country roads, where breathtaking views of the sapphire ocean, windblown grasses and golden beaches abound. Taste mouthwatering salmon on a lively smokehouse tour. Hear the heartbeat of pub music with a stirring bodhran demonstration.
Today is dedicated to exploring a section of the famous Wild Atlantic Way, a scenic route that winds along Ireland’s windswept western coast. Leaving the hotel on your bike, follow meandering country roads that skirt the base of Errisbeg Mountain en route to the charming hamlet of Roundstone. Breathtaking views of the sapphire ocean, windblown grasses and golden beaches open up before you as you near the water’s edge. Make your way to the seaside Connemara Smokehouse, where traditional fish-smoking methods have been handed down through generations. We’re treated to a tasting of mouthwatering salmon and other smoked delicacies. Our appetites whetted, we savour a scrumptious lunch nearby. Following lunch, hop in the shuttle or back on your bike to loop through bucolic scenery back to Clifden. There’s time this afternoon for some R&R in your room or to sit back with a book by one of the lobby’s open-log fires.
Following breakfast, head out for a spin along quiet roads with the jagged Twelve Bens mountains as your backdrop. In the quintessentially Irish village of Clifden, stop to linger over a cup of coffee or peruse the quirky shops, perhaps in search of jewellery made with renowned green Connemara marble. Then pedal along the scenic Sky Road to the Aughrus Peninsula, a rock-strewn seaside landscape teeming with stone fences and lovely farmhouses. We break for a cosy lunch at a family-run pub in quaint Claddaghduff. Back on two wheels, soak in views across Omey Strand to its sandy tidal island, then turn inland toward Letterfrack, the gateway to Connemara National Park. This evening we tour a local oyster farm to learn about the three-year process from seed to harvest. Afterwards, we’re treated to a simple, fresh and delicious oyster tasting right at the source. Tonight we sit down to a delicious meal made with locally sourced produce at the hotel’s restaurant.
Group hugs and heartfelt goodbyes will mark the end of our trip after one last breakfast today. Wrap things up with a complimentary transfer to Galway Train Station or you can choose to make your own arrangements. Whatever the case, you will leave with a new home away from home in Connemara.
