What to Expect on an Ireland Adventure Tour?

Our adventure vacations in Ireland are designed to be active, but accessible. You don’t need to be an athlete to join us, just bring a reasonable level of fitness and a love for the outdoors. Most hikes are 2–4 hours on moderate terrain, while cycling and kayaking options can be tailored to your ability. With small groups of 8–16 travellers, there’s plenty of flexibility to go at your own pace.

We provide all the logistics — transport, accommodation, and expert local guides — so you can focus on the adventure itself. Walking boots, layered clothing, and a sense of curiosity are all you’ll need to pack.

Our small group tours also emphasise sustainability and connection with local communities. From local irish guides, to staying in family-run B&Bs and supporting independent activity providers, every trip is crafted to leave a positive impact on the people and places we visit.

And perhaps the best part? The camaraderie. Many of our travellers arrive solo or in small groups, but by the end of day one, you’ll feel part of a team — whether you’re sharing a laugh on a cliffside trail, swapping stories over dinner, or toasting together after a day’s ride.

Kiernan our tour guide (born in Belfast) was great, giving us history, info and insight as only someone who truly knows the land could. Tony our driver was fun, playing Irish and American music all while driving us around safely to our many destinations.
The tour was well structured, allowing us time to see a multitude of sights. I would have liked more time in Killarney to explore the national park there and Dingle to take advantage of the boating trips out in the Atlantic, but of course we only had 11 days.
All the hotels were very clean with central locations and walking distance to restaurants, pubs and shops. The Lough Eske Castle Hotel was a separate and elegant experience.
Being a solo traveler, I appreciated that most nights I had the option to join the group for dinner or go off on my own.
My only negative was that the seats on the bus were not rotated. Whenever I had a question, I would have to shout it from the back of the bus.
All in all, I would highly recommend this tour. There is so much to see and do, I wish there was a 21 day tour!

We had the most amazing time on the 13 day tour, and can therefore thoroughly recommend Irish Experience Tours.
Our guide, Sean was clearly passionate about sharing his country with us, and created the perfect balance of information, laughs, entertainment and craic to make the entire experience one we haven't stopped talking about.
The tour itself was incredibly well planned and organised, leaving us feeling that we've truly seen a bit of everything Ireland has to offer. There was a good balance and use of time, as we never felt rushed nor that we were idle, and the ability to have dinners either alone or as a planned group event made for some enjoyable evenings.
Our group of 15 was very comfortable on what I feel was a larger than usual bus, and Sean was obviously attune to everyone's different needs and various requests.
Thanks Sean - the craic was surely mighty!

Such a wonderful well-rounded experience.
Everything was planned out just perfectly with ample time at all the points of interest.
We even got to see border collies herd sheep and stay in a castle. Seanie, our tour guide and driver, was a treat as well. He was able to handle 3 American hens squawking at him every chance we got. Thank you!! You will be missed.

Time to fall in love with Ireland! (Review of 13 Day Tour) A wonderful trip through Ireland’s countryside, towns, villages and iconic sights. Our fabulous driver-guide regaled us with the best of Irish humour, built camaraderie within our diverse group, shared Irish history, taught us a bit of Irish and looked after all our needs, even adding in extra stops to reflect interests of tour members. Accommodations and included breakfasts were excellent and everyone was delighted with the various optional excursions they chose. It was a delight to have a second day in a few different towns to be able to explore restaurants, pubs, or music with great suggestions from our guide. Thanks for everything, Seanie!

Our Irish Experience 11 day ultimate Irish experience tour took place this September and it turned out to be our trip of a life time! Our tour guide Seanie P had everything so well put together that we felt well taken care of from the moment we met! We were picked up right at our hotel in Dublin where the atmosphere set the tone. Fun! We were in a small group of 15 on a new bus with a ton of room for each guest. The bus was comfortable, with wonderful views from every seat. With the bus being smaller then the larger buses, we were able to get in and out of areas along the island most probably could not. Plus we had a very experienced driver Seanie P. We left for Kinsale, Killarney, Dingle, Galway, Lough Eske Castle, Derry, Aran Islands, and Belfast! Seanie's knowledge of Ireland was top notch. He had restaurant suggestions, pubs, tips and tricks of different sight seeing or group photo areas. He took the time to book group dinners with no pressure if we just wanted to explore on our own. He suggested extra activities and how to make that happen, jokes, great music and hilarious stories. Check in and check outs at our guest houses and hotels was seamless. Hosts were courteous, welcoming, efficient and had breakfasts that kept us fueled all day long! Irish Experience obviously picked the top guest houses and hotels for our trip. I am still dreaming of my stay in the Castle! This 11 day tour was a perfect mix of amazing scenery, history and cultural highlights. We can not even pick a favorite part, there are so many. Thank you Irish Experience Tours for putting together this tour option. We will and have already been referring your tours. We will be back to visit from Canada and connecting with you and your company.

Top Irish Destinations for Adventure Travellers

Ireland’s landscapes are made for adventure, and our itineraries bring you to the best of them.

Explore the windswept cliffs of the Wild Atlantic Way, where hiking trails lead to breathtaking views. Wander through Connemara’s rugged mountains and glassy lakes, or cycle the quiet backroads of Kerry and Cork. In Northern Ireland, the Causeway Coast combines dramatic geology with some of the island’s most scenic walking routes.

Each destination is chosen not just for its beauty, but for the outdoor experiences it offers, making every day of your trip active and unforgettable.

Best Adventurous Activities You Can Add to Your Ireland Tour

You don’t need to commit to a full-on adventure itinerary to enjoy the outdoors. We can build in extra activities along the way. Some of our most popular add-ons include:

  • Ireland Walking Tours: Scenic guided hikes through national parks, coastal cliffs, and hidden valleys.
  • Ireland Hiking Tours: Multi-hour or multi-day routes for those who want to push further into the wild.
  • Biking Tours in Ireland: Cycle coastal routes, country lanes, or even try an ebike tour of Ireland for a fun twist.
  • Ireland Kayaking Tours: Paddle tranquil lakes, explore sea caves, and see the coastline from a new perspective.
  • Horseback Riding & Surfing: For travellers looking for a different kind of thrill along Ireland’s beaches.
  • Cultural Adventures: Go beyond the outdoors with artisan workshops, food trails, and music sessions that bring Ireland’s culture to life.

Adventure Tours of Ireland - FAQs

What kind of fitness level do you need for an adventure trip to Ireland?

Most Ireland adventure tours are designed for people with a moderate level of fitness. Walking and hiking routes usually range from 2 to 4 hours on uneven terrain, while activities like biking or kayaking can often be adjusted to suit different abilities.

You don’t need to be an expert athlete, just comfortable being outdoors and active for part of the day.

When is the best time to go on an adventure holiday in Ireland?

The most popular months for adventure holidays in Ireland are May through September, when the days are long, the countryside is green, and the weather is mildest. Spring and autumn are also fantastic times to visit, offering quieter trails and great value.

Winter is less common for adventure trips in Ireland, but some walking and cultural tours still run year-round.

Do I need to bring my own equipment for adventure activities?

For most adventure tours in Ireland, specialist equipment such as bikes, helmets, or kayaks is provided. You should bring suitable walking shoes, waterproof clothing, and a daypack for hikes. Some tours also supply e-bikes or wetsuits for water-based activities.

We create and operate tours that let travellers experience the country from a local and authentic perspective by connecting them with our place and our people.
